When it comes to air travel, a large number of people affected daily heaven. People fly from all different reasons. Some people have to make a business trip, others are visiting friends or relatives, others are on vacation, and some are making a cross country forward. If you are moving, there is a good chance that you may have to take your pet with you. If this is the case, you will find that you are subject to a whole new set of rules for air travel. Before leaving for the airport with your pet or pets in tow, we recommend formularize with those standards.

The first step to travel in the air, with a pet is to make sure they are still allowed. Some animals are allowed to be on airplanes, but that does not mean that all airlines will allow it. If you plan to travel with your pet, you should inform your airline that information from the outset. This is vital because not all airlines will allow you to save an animal on board. Therefore, if you do not check with your airline before heading to the airport, you may be unable to board your flight.

When travelling with a pet, you will need to keep that pet contained. That means that if you are travelling with an animal, such as a dog or a cat, that animal will likely need to be in a carrier. When purchasing an animal carrier, it is important to know that not all carriers are permitted onboard. If you will be keeping your animal in the cabin with you, as opposed to having your animal treated as checked baggage, you will need to make sure that your pet carrier will not negatively affect other passengers. Your pet carrier must not block aisle ways or encroach on other passenger’s seating spaces. In addition to these general rules and restrictions, you may find that each airline has their own set of pet carrier rules.

Almost all airlines require that your pets have the proper documents before being allowed on their airplanes. These documents most commonly include information on your pet’s health. Most airlines require that your pet undergoes a medical evaluation before being transported by airplane. This information is not only used to ensure that your pet is healthy enough to fly, but is also used to ensure that they are protected with the proper vaccinations. Proper vaccinations will not only protect your pet, but other passengers, as well as airline staff.

Once you have received permission from the airline, which wants to fly, to acquire the proper equipment for pets, and gained control of health suitable for your pet, you have to wait until the day of travel. On that day, you might want to get to the airport a little earlier than recommended. This will help ensure that you can quickly straighten out a problem without losing their flight, one should arise.

When you and your pet arrival at the airport, whether at the beginning or not, you will both be required to pass through airport security. Your animal will be required to pass through a metal detector, like everyone else. If you use an animal carrier, it is also likely that your pet carrier will be presented for consideration. This review includes most often being sent if the x-ray machine with your carryon baggage, but it is important to note that your pet will not have to go through the x-ray machine, metal detector should be sufficient.

As previously mentioned, not all airlines allow their passengers to fly with their pets, even in the cabin or below deck. That is why it is advised that you determine whether or not your pet can fly with you, ahead of time. In addition to different air travel rules, you may also find that some airlines charged extra fees for pet passengers. In the event that you are charged, you will be notified of this charge ahead of time.

We have all done it. Our cute, little furry friend is practically grinning at us from below the kitchen table. Their ears are perked and their tail is waggling. We know what our dog wants. Just a small choice morsel from dinner would be fabulous, right? What could it hurt? It is just a bite or 2 after all.

Hold Fido’s ears he will not want to hear this. A dogs diet really should not contain table scraps. People food is just that…for people. A dogs nutritionary needs are not the like as a humans. Sure, we eat some of the same things, but feeding your pet food from the table is one of the greatest mistakes for your pet. A dogs diet does not require all the added goodies we add into our food.

Individuals have often have weight problems like obesity. Well a dog can have this problem also. If your dogs diet involves mostly table scraps, then the chances are that your dog will not keep a healthy weight. Even a a couple of pounds over weight can make a great difference in the quality of health and length of your pets life.

When you have a dog who is not a picky eater, it can be tempting to let your pet be the garbage disposal in your home, but really, this is not a good idea. Certain people foods can harm your dog and should never be a part of your dogs diet. Grapes, for example, have been known to cause serious problems for dogs, even death. Chicken bones and popcorn can also be a problem for your dog. Permitting significant amounts of chocolate can be dangerous in a dogs diet.

A poor diet even shows up out in the yard. When your dogs diet is not at its best, your pets outputs will be bigger in size, smell, and mess. The benefits of choosing a healthy diet for your dog will be noticeable in your pets health, as well as, during those walks around the block.

There are a few occasions when a supplement or treat from the kitchen may be alright, but never in excess. Speak to your veterinarian about healthy snacks for your dogs diet. If you simply must continue feeding Fido at the table, many veterinaries recommend you give your pet ice cubes or pieces of carrot to munch on between regular feeding times. Supplying your pet these healthy choices to pizza and cupcakes gives you the freedom to choose a healthy and nutritious snack for your dogs diet.

The next time your pet begins eyeing your food, what you need to do is redirect their attention. Do not use your table scraps. Alternatively give your dog a refreshing ice cube to munch on. A baby carrot will keep your dog happy and make you feel good about the right options you have made for the nutritional value of your dogs diet. If you follow these steps, you will know that you are doing your best to give pet a high quality diet.

Originally a sport created by rodeos for their wives and girlfriends, barrel horse racing has now become a sport event where everybody can join.

by Maxwell Smithson

Originally a sport created by rodeos for their wives and girlfriends, barrel horse racing has now become a sport event where everybody can join.

The game begins once the racer enters the arena towards the first barrel. On this, the rider must enter at a slight angle since its much easier for the racer if he would not come straight on to it. A complete turn must be accomplished on the first barrel before moving to the second one.

Some horses tend to have no breaks at all. In this case, you must not allow your horse to run unless control is gained on it. Solution to this problem can start with running at slower gaits until progress is achieved. Run your horse on barrels only when you are confident enough of its speed and its capability to halt.

Choosing barrel horse racing sale

One of the major considerations when selecting an option for a barrel horse is its speed. After all, barrel horse racing is all about speed, not on the beauty of might or elegance of your steed but on its agility and performance. You are against no subjective rules while on race track but your bane is the time. Thus, you must give priority on how fast the barrel horse for sale can go.

You should also put in mind the training a horse for sale has gone. Early discipline is vital with barrel horse racing as this is not only a discipline-based event for horses; it also incorporates focus while on track. Earlier during the selection, you should ask for some display of skills.

Lastly, but certainly not among the least consideration is the justification of the price. Too low price, considering that the horse barrel horse is for sale might imply lesser efficiency on the horse’s part. High commanding price may also be too advantageous. Either way, you must discern things properly.

by Amanda Fay Wilsley

I love my dog Rosie. I adopted her from an animal shelter. She had been abused by her previous owners, though, so we definitely got off to a shaky start. She was really terrified of everything and everybody, and she also had some behavior issues. So first and foremost I had to get her socialized, not an easy thing to do.

She wasn’t socialized at all, so I had to address that right away. I wanted her to be friendly to my family and friends, but not get too chummy with total strangers.

And I had a real challenge ahead of me with the unwanted behaviors. I was really daunted about how to address so many problems.

My first big issue was the jumping up. I would be bending down to pet her, she would jump up, scratch me, and I would bleed. Not good.

Second, barking at every single noise was a big problem. Everyone knows that dogs bark, but excessive barking is not a good thing. Not only did it annoy me, but my neighbors would start complaining sooner or later.

Then there was her anxiety. That’s a huge topic all by itself. Every time I would leave the house, she would whine and howl. I’m sure my neighbors loved that. And it didn’t matter if I was leaving to go to work or leaving for only a few minutes to go get the mail.

Walking on the leash was not a very enjoyable experience for either me or my dog. My little dog weighs about 20 pounds, but she was strong enough to pull me along behind her. I wasn’t walking her — she was walking me.

Although not the only issues, the ones listed above were the most urgent ones to get started on. But I was a little overwhelmed on where exactly to start. It had been so long since I trained my last dog (who died of old age), that my skills were a little rusty, to say the least.

Well, almost everyone I know has dogs, so I just started calling them for recommendations. Some suggested hiring a dog-trainer, and others advised me to do it myself by ordering an online dog-training course. After careful consideration I ordered the “Do It Yourself” program by Sharda Baker.

I am seeing some progress already. Rosie is already much more socialized, and she also is not as upset when I leave home. She still barks, though, and more work is needed.

Another article will be submitted when I see more progress with Rosie’s training. Until then, I hope you have enjoyed my article.

We all have that special someone in our life. That little ball of energy overly excited to see us home from the grocery store. The excited bliss and pawing at the glass upon seeing us approach the door. The second we walk in the door the tail wags so much it takes over the rear half, rendering it unable to move in any position contrary to the tail. For many, that special someone is a regular part of the family, regardless of his or her four legged nature.

Fido, regardless of looks or breed, is the reason most of us smile, giggle uncontrollably and cuddle ferociously when stressed. He or she is the perfect antidote to life and one that brings unconditional love and support. It is important when taking in all that love to also take the time to care and love your pet back. One of the most important things you can do is treat your dog to the gift of good health. Take them to the vet.

A yearly exam is the key to success when it comes to pets. Liken this to your child’s exams. Vaccinations, physicals, questions - the standard doctor drill should be expected and if not given, request it. Your veterinarian is highly trained, and simply by listening to your responses, running tests and giving your dog a physical he or she can point out any potential problems your little Fido is having.

If your beloved friend has a severe change in behavior, stops eating or drinking, has discolored or foul urine or stool, or just seems sluggish, it is also the time to pack him or her up and head to the vet. Vets provide suggestions and multiple solutions so you don’t have to worry about not being able to provide care.

Fido deserves the long, happy life you want him to have. A good relationship with a vet can not only guarantee a healthy animal, but it can also leave you a happy animal.

Mike and his family enjoy having Otto, their yellow Labrador, around their home. But they sometimes encounter problems when the kids would play in the backyard with the dog. Otto would repeatedly knock them down and when Mike would join in to play with them the dog would try to mount on him. At times if Mike scolds at his children to reprimand them, Otto would get distressed and start growling. Mike tried spanking Otto or tapping him on his nose, but nothing seemed to be curbing Otto’s aggression.

Bruce had finally given up on Matt’s behavior. He was talking his frustration over Matt’s aggressive behavior with a neighbor, who recommended a dog trainer. His neighbor advised him that the trainer would visit them in their house to work with Bruce and his family to aid them curb some of these behaviors.

Gab automatically phoned the trainer and they both agreed on having him come over when everyone is at home to make observations on Teru’s behavior. Upon witnessing how they move, act around their home, and relate to each other, the trainer quickly knew what is happening and further explained to the family that Teru have a pack mentality. Pack mentality is the type of attitude wherein one dog has dominance over everyone. Teru’s behavior was a way of him presenting he was in charge. That’s why the trainer suggested that the family stop allowing Teru to claim that he was the Alpha Dog. Knowing about this, Gab would need to establish himself as the leader of Teru’s pack.

Bruce followed the trainer’s advice and started taking control over everything. The trainer explained to Bruce that Matt should wait first for permission to use any toy or even to eat. Matt needs to acknowledge that Bruce and his family were in control. Bruce put up Matt’s toys and refrain form letting him to jump up on the couch or bed unless he sat first.

When Otto wants to play or go out the backyard, Mike will begin training him to sit in front of the toy box or doorway. For when he sat on command, Mike would let him play with a toy or open the door for him. If Otto would not follow, Mike would not give Otto what he wanted. Mike also instructed his kids how to do the same thing. At first Otto would not respond, but realized that he was not getting what he wanted, so he would follow to commands.

The trainer also discouraged Bruce from playing tug-of-war with Matt. Even though this was one of Bruce’s favorite games to play with Matt, he observed that Matt’s behavior worsened after a game of tug-of-war. The trainer cited that these kinds of games are instinctual ways for dogs to assert dominance in the pack. He suggested games of fetch and using other active toys to excite Matt.

A couple of months have passed and the dog’s aggression dissipated. Every now and then, Otto would try to reassert himself as the alpha dog, but the family now knows not to give in to Otto’s demands. Otto had improved and no longer knocks down the kids when they would play, and he definitely stopped mounting on Mike. Mike was now able to even teach him other tricks that he never thought Otto was capable of.

The key to Gab’s success with Teru was that the family had to establish dominance over Teru. After Teru realized his spot in the hierarchy, he was better-behaved and the aggression subsided.

One of the most popular and beautiful dog breeds is the Golden Retriever. An excellent family pet and hunting companion, the Golden Retriever is known for its loyalty, energy, devotion, intelligence, gentleness and beauty. Golden Retrievers are believed to be a mix of the now extinct Tweed Water Spaniel, Irish Setter, Bloodhound, and Newfoundland as well as other water spaniels. Today’s Golden Retrievers still love to swim and can be trained to hunt and track. Because of their high level of intelligence, Goldens are also trained to assist the blind.

Developed by Lord Tweedmouth of Scotland in the 1800s, the first Golden Retrievers were hunting dogs as well as family pets. Initially, a darker gold to copper-colored coat was preferred in the breed. Today’s Goldens are more likely to be cream to light gold in color and more likely to be family pets than hunters.

The American Kennel Club sets the reed standard characteristics that must be apparent in a dog to compete in AKC competition. Golden Retriever breeders mate dogs with the most desirable characteristics in the hopes of breeding champion lines.

Some of the most desired characteristics of Golden Retrievers are intelligence, trainability, beauty, gentleness and hunting and tracking ability. The first dog to win an American Kennel Club obedience championship was a Golden Retriever.

Golden Retrievers are prone to hip dysplasia, eye and skin diseases, ear infections, cancer, and obesity. Though the breed has excellent behavioral traits such as loyalty and eagerness to please, Golden Retrievers can also become too focused on a task. For example they can work themselves until they collapse or eat until they become sick.

Golden Retriever breeders you should avoid include any breeders suspected of running puppy mills or over-breeding dogs until subsequent litters as well as parents become ill. If breeders seem to have too many puppies available at one time and will not allow the buyer to visit their kennels these are warning signals that these are bad breeders. Other breeders to avoid are those who sell to pet stores. Healthy, purebred puppies do not come from pet stores.

Good breeders do not breed or raise dogs as merchandise to be shipped across the country and sold to anyone. It is imperative for buyers to know how to identify good from bad Golden Retriever breeders to put bad breeders out of business for good.

Look for breeders with these traits and avoid those that cannot meet these requirements or even cannot answers questions about the Golden Retriever.

One of the most beloved dog breeds is the Poodle. Standard, Miniature and Toy sized Poodles are regularly champions in dog competitions. Poodles are widely remarked upon for their elaborate fur clips, especially when primping for show. The American Kennel Club requires that Poodles be clipped in either the Continental or English Saddle styles (for adult Poodles) or the puppy clip (for Poodles under twelve months of age).

The type of fur clips seen on Poodles in competition originated to reduce the weight of the fur while protecting the joints from cold water. The rear half of the dog is shaved with rings of soft fur being left around the lower legs, part of the tail and part of the hips. The head fur is coiffed and styled into a pompadour, which makes the Poodle seem at once beautiful and haughty. The Continental and English Saddle pet clips are intricate and required in American Kennel Club competition. The appearance of the Poodle makes this breed a rather intimidating competitor.

The elaborate fur clip seen in competition began as a functional way to lighten the weight of the curly, dense coat while insulating the joints from cold water. Poodles were used as retrievers and duck hunters and the breed still adores water.

Poodle breeders understand Poodle breed standard characteristics. They follow the American Kennel Club’s standards when preparing Poodles for AKC competitions. For example, dogs under twelve months of age can be groomed in a puppy cut, which is an all-over trim with fur of the same length.

Poodle breeders may specialize in Toy, Miniature or Standard Poodles. Each Poodle has requirements in height and weight. Toy Poodles must be six to nine pounds and a maximum of ten inches in height, miniature Poodles must fifteen to seventeen pounds and eleven to fifteen inches in height and standard Poodles must be forty-five to seventy pounds and over fifteen inches in height at the shoulder.

Buyers can then begin contacting local Poodle breeders and rescue centers. Buyers should look for AKC certified breeders or breeders with references, and should interview Poodle breeders before purchasing a purebred Poodle. By doing this, buyers can ask specific questions to weed out any illegitimate Poodle breeders.

Purebred Poodles should come with a documented pedigree or ancestry showing evidence of past champions in the genetic line. Poodle breeders should make documentation of ancestry and medical records available to buyers. They should educate buyers on common health problems, historical facts, and proper care and grooming of Poodles.

Buyers can avoid bad breeders by asking to visit the kennel where puppies are born and raised, requesting documentation of Poodle pedigree and medical records, and by asking breeders if they broker or sell puppies to pet stores. Good Poodle breeders will never treat a puppy as merchandise to be shipped and sold to anyone.

Even a bit of dog chewing would lead to damage, especially at home. Instead of turning our house into wreckage, we can avoid this behavior before it gets worse and eventually become uncontrollable. Dogs, of course, would not even know it but this habit can progress into ridiculous proportions and at times would be the cause of them wanting to find a new home as they feel unwelcome pests in their present ones. Whatever breed our dog is, avoiding their chewing habit is possible, just follow these simple steps:

Step One: Provide Chewing Alternatives

The first step would be providing them with chewing alternatives. Just by hearing the words, you’ll know that this step only means that your dogs can still chew on something but rather than making his and your life miserable because of dog chewing on inappropriate items such us shoes, slippers, pieces of furniture, etc. You can give him his own set of toys to chew on. Especially for puppies that are really prone to chew whatever gets in their way, but this would also work for older dogs. Invest on lots of chewing toys, hard or soft, for as long as they would not focus on usable items would be great and this would likely exercise his jaws as well. And when we said chewing toys, these toys are the ones specially made for them, not just those worn out items that your dog already destroyed. Many owners leave their dog eventually puzzled when they give their dogs an old shoe and then gets mad when they see their dog chewing on a new pair. Speaking of toys, prefer those which are like bones and those dog chewing toys that have another purpose which is tartar control. These are the ones you see with small spines in them that work’s to clean a dog’s teeth and to massage their gums.

2. Pick It Up

Second is picking it up. Let’s think of it this way, when our dog does not have access to items, he’ll not be able get them and chew on them. Our pet cannot chew on our brand new leather bags and the like unless it’s placed within their reach. In this case, we must learn how to dog/puppy-proof our home to help prevent our pet from chewing whatever is within their proximity. Just imagine leaving our stuff wherever, of course our dogs would think that it’s for them to chew on. And then we come home, sees that totally damaged item (which we left behind), our initial reaction would be punishing our dog, but we must keep in mind that we are partly to be blamed for it.

Step Three: Train, Train, Train

Instruct your dog commands like “leave it” and “drop.” With this, your dog can right away respond if he should pick something up that is inappropriate. What’s more, these commands fit for walks when a wandering dog may want to get up something potentially unsafe. A “drop” command will let your dog to directly recognize the circumstances. Frequently, when a dog picks up an inappropriate object, a game of tug of war ensues as the owner tries to get the item back from the dog.

Step Four

Is your dog is prone to chewing? Think about confining him to a certain room in your home where your dog can have the most damage when unchecked. Having a dog requires a great deal of trust on the parts of the dog and the owner; thus, refrain from giving your dog free rein over everything unless you can trust his behavior. Furthermore, turn to anti-chewing creams like Bitter Apple that are unsavory to your dog and will stop him from chewing on items like furniture, electrical cords, and other items.
