They were bred as fighting dogs and through the years became known as guard dogs. Today these dogs are our loveable companions.

They are fiercely loyal to their families and will defend them from any stranger. If a Mini Shar Pei is not socialized early in his life he will become naturally aggressive towards people. The obedience training and socialization is a major component to mastering this breed. They are small but powerful dogs and become quite defensive when their own territory or family is in question. Mini Shar Peis are loveable, funny and very affectionate with their own family members. They make great family pets. Mini Shar Peis make great companion dogs especially for the elderly.

The nickname for the breed is the Golden Lion.
