How to Handle Shih Tzu Dogs
Shih Tzu dogs have a lot of behaviors that are found only in their breed and sometimes that is a good thing and sometimes that is not such a good thing. Before you invest in a Shih Tzu dog, and bring one home with you, you may want to look up their typical behavior and see if they are the right kind of dog for you and your family.
Shih Tzu dogs hate loud noises and they also hate loud gatherings and a lot of commotion and sound. One of their typical responses to a lot of noise can be a biting response and that biting response is usually taken out on the closest person to them. For this reason it may not be a great idea to get a Shih Tzu if you have small children. Talk with your Shih Tzu breeder and see if mixing the dog with your children will be a good idea or not.
Shih Tzu dogs come from dogs that were preferred by ancient Chinese royalty and they know it. They carry themselves very well and will usually walk very upright and proper. They do not need a lot of exercise but they love to run and play when they feel the urge and they certainly will not fight the urge to have fun if everyone around them seems to be having fun as well.
As much as they may look like a typical toy breed of dog the Shih Tzu dog is not known to be a vocal or annoying dog. They do not carry on like the other toy breeds do and they are certainly not known as yippy dogs at all.
They do not bark endlessly and they do not normally feel the need to bark at everything that moves, as a typical dog would. They do snort and snore a lot but they like to keep the barking at a minimum as much as possible.
A Shih Tzu dog is very much a dog with a mind of its own. They do not take to mindless commands like a more obedient breed of dog would and if they don’t want to chase the stick then they are not going to. They are very stubborn and this can be a problem when you are trying to show the dog who is in charge. This can also be a problem when it comes to housebreaking because they can sometimes take months to realize you want them to do their business outside.
Shih Tzu dogs make great little pets but they need a lot of attention. They need to be combed regularly to keep their long beautiful coat healthy so that the dog can stay healthy as well.
They require a lot of attention and care but they can also be the most affectionate pet you ever owned. So be sure a Shih Tzu dog is for you before you invest in one because there may be some things about the dog that you do not like and if you can find that out in advance then you may be able to save you and the dog a lot of hassles.
